  • School Closure

    Wed 18 Mar 2020 F Gibbard

    18 March 2020

    Dear parent/carer

Firstly, I wish to thank you for all the ongoing support you have shown us during this period of uncertainty. I am sure you will also join me in thanking all the staff at the school, in all their varied roles, for the commitment they have shown under such difficult circumstances. I am very proud of our whole school community.

As you will have heard, Kirsty Williams, the Education Minister for Wales has made an announcement regarding school closures in Wales and as a result, we will be closing from 3.20pm on Friday 20th March. We are unable to advise you of a return date, but will make contact with you via Dojo, Twitter and on our Website once a return date has been announced. I am sorry that we can give no further advice here; however, we can assume that it will not be until sometime after the Easter Break.

I want to reassure you that whilst the school is closing for teaching and learning, we will not be disappearing. We will be using the next two days to ensure that pupils have access to their passwords and log ins for Hwb, TT Rockstars and Giglets, some of our online learning platforms. We are also able to provide paper copies of a learning pack for you at the office on request.

Furthermore teachers, if they are well, will communicate with you via Dojo or Hwb during normal school hours, should you have any essential questions. Also, if anyone feels they need to contact me directly please do so via the following email address: gibbardf@hwbmail.net Please state your child’s full name and child’s class teacher if you contact me via email and provide your phone number if you would like me to ring you back. As long as I am well, I will aim to get back to you the same day or within 48 hours maximum, as I may need to prioritise. I will help as much as I can.

We are all affected by what is an unprecedented situation but I know that as a community we will show our strength and get through this by helping each other.

Take care and thank you again,

    Fiona Gibbard

  • Essential Coronavirus update

    Tue 17 Mar 2020 F Gibbard

    Dear parent/carer/guardian

We are writing to advise you of some measures we have taken today with regard to the Corona-virus outbreak. I politely ask that you read all the information contained in this letter as it is of vital importance.

From today all school clubs that are run after school are cancelled until further notice. If your child has an after school club today then you will have already been contacted by our office staff.

Our after school club provision which runs on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday is also cancelled until further notice. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience this causes but these are unprecedented times.

All trips are also to be postponed until further notice. Please be assured that all monies collected so far will be kept safe so that the trips can be rearranged in the near future. Information on the future of the Llanmadoc residential will follow once we make a decision on the viability of the trip in coming months.

Breakfast club will be running as normal for now, however, we ask that you only bring your child to breakfast club if it is essential for them to attend.

Can we also ask that you follow Government and NHS guidelines to self-isolate if you fall within the categories listed or are displaying symptoms. Please also be advised that should any pupil attend school who is displaying any symptoms associated with the virus, we will need to follow guidelines ourselves and you will be politely asked to collect your child and any siblings. If you have chosen to keep your child away from school please be also reassured that we support this decision and absence will be authorised as long as you advise us of your decision. Please look at the latest update on the NHS website for further details of self-isolation periods, symptoms and vulnerable groups. This is updated by them daily and is accessed by typing in the following link.

We have today been preparing 'Home Learning' activities for our learners. If you require a Home learning activity pack/information sheet, please contact your child's teacher/s via Dojo or contact the office. We ask that if you use Dojo, you contact using this method, as our office is currently very busy. If you do not use Dojo then please feel free to telephone the office on 01792 522202.

I wish to advise you that we have still NOT received notification of school closure. School is OPEN until we receive a notification from the Local Authority which states otherwise.

As soon as we receive this advice we will pass the information on to you immediately via all our usual communication methods.

Many thanks for your patience at what is a difficult time for us all,

    Kindest regards,

    Fiona Gibbard

Due to the current situation with the pandemic COVID – 19 (coronavirus) we have been advised to temporarily suspend the Designed To Smile tooth brushing and Floride Vanish programme in schools until further notice.

We are asking all settings to reiterate to parents and guardians that the programme has been suspended, however they need to continue to keep tooth brushing at home.
