Welcome to Reception Miss Ford’s class.

Thank you for taking time to read our page!

My teaching assistants, Miss Williams, Miss Lewis, Miss Pickard and I are very proud of Reception and the progress they are starting to make in class.

The purpose of this page is to give you information to help you stay up to date with what is going on in your child’s learning.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on Dojo.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Miss Ford.

Topic

Our topic this term is ‘LONG LONG AGO’ with a particular focus on 'DINOSAURS'. We will be exploring all about dinosaurs including: When they lived, what they ate and where they lived. We will also be exploring different materials, floating and sinking and also making animations in DCF.  The children will also be completing lots of creative tasks linked to our topic.

Linked to our topic 'long long ago' we are also going to be completing a topic based on history and how the world around us has changed. We will be learning about different periods of time to when the Queen was on the throne to present day. We will learn about the different elements of this period - food, clothes, homes, etc.

We will also be celebrating of course the Queens Jubilee - this will help focus our activities, we will look at her reign and the different decades of her reign as well as having a Jubilee celebration!

Things to remember:

-Please bring labelled fruit to school every day, separate from their lunch.

-We have P.E on a Friday, please could children come to school dressed appropriately.

-Reading books are to be brought in every day, their book will be read with an adult and aimed to be changed once a week to bring back home.

-Please label all belongings with your child’s name.

How to help your child:

Maths: Help your child recognise numbers by going on number hunts around the house or identifying numbers when out and about. We also ask that you get children to practice forming their numbers as well as recognise them.  See below our number formation rhymes to help at home.

Reading :We ask that you find a quiet ten minutes every day to look at a book with your child. The more you read and talk about stories, the more confident your child will feel about handling books. If you child has not been given a reading book yet, please keep practicing their sounds using our Jolly Phonics songs.  When your child in confident with them, we can then send one home with them.

Writing: Please encourage your child to write their names independently.  This can be made fun by using a range of different materials e.g. painting, chalk, felt tips.  Your child so should also be trying to form some sounds correctly, getting them to sit on the line. See below our Jolly Phonics formation rhymes to help them at home.
