Year 2 - Miss Evans

Croeso i flwyddyn dau! Welcome to Year 2!

Teacher: Miss N Evans
Teaching assistants: Miss Lewis, Mrs Thomas and Miss N Seabright

In Y2E the time has been flying by, we've had so much fun and learnt so many new skills! We can't wait for this Summer term and to continue making lots of progress all the way to July.

In maths, we have already covered so many new skills, looking at number, measure, time, shape and data. We have enjoyed a huge variety of practical and written activities, and now throughout the Summer term we will be recapping many of these skills and begin working with much larger numbers. At home it would be really helpful for us to practise our times tables, we can use TTRockstars to help, or good, old fashion recalling out loud.

In literacy we have enjoyed looking at many different genres of writing, persuasion, instruction, letters, and so much more. We absolutely love stories in Y2E, and love to create story maps to tell stories. Our independent writing has come along so much! And we still have a whole term left to continue with this. This term we will be looking at more story writing, newspaper report writing and poetry. To help at home, we can be practising our reading everyday and phonics. In class we use Jolly Phonics to help us learn sounds, and these videos can be accessed via YouTube at home too! Individual reading books and records are kept up to date weekly, please ensure that your child brings their book back to school for us to read with them too! We need to aim for at least 5 minutes of reading at home each day, this will really help us in our learning.

Our new topic for the Summer term is 'Land Ahoy!', where we are focussing on water safety, the incredible work of the RNLI, sinking and floating, lighthouses, etc. We may even have a go at making our own light up lighthouses later on in the term! So keep a look out on our Twitter page to see what we are getting up to in class.

Important information:

P.E - Tuesdays - Children should wear their P.E kit to school, appropriate footwear is a must!

Fruit - Children can bring a piece of fruit to school, or buy some from the fruit tuck for 30p

Reading books and records - These should be returned to school at least once per week, for us to read with your child and issue a new reading book

Spelling and home learning - Home learning activities and spelling words are sent home every Friday. We have spelling tests the following week, on the Friday. I would ask that home learning books are returned to school by Wednesday for marking.
Sun cream and sun hats - As we approach the Summer please be mindful of the weather, and apply sun cream before school. It would also be a great idea for children to wear hats to school when the weather does improve - we aim to spend lots of time in our outdoor areas this term.

If you have any questions, or need to speak to me then please do not hesitate to drop me a message via ClassDojo.
