Topic- The Slimy Stuarts

In Gwion this term, we are going to be looking: The Slimy Stuarts

Activities will include: -Learning about the events that occurred during the Stuarts e.g. great fire of London, plague, gunpowder plot. Comparing events to present day.

-Working together as a team to make a scene and characters, using them to create a short animation of one of the events. Children will be using the app ‘Stop Motion’.

-Exploring materials, forces, sinking and floating in order to design, test, make and evaluate a boat to the new world. We will then conclude the topic by holding an assembly for parents to showcase what we have learnt!

Missions

Our Missions are opportunities for us to work independently. During our 'RAP' time on a Friday, we discuss which 'Missions', we would like to complete the following week. The 'Missions', must build on the learning which has taken place during focussed teaching time. 'Missions' allow us to develop independence, confidence, resilience and to develop cooperation skills.

Things you can do to help

-Please make every effort to read at home with your child. Just a page or two a day will be really beneficial and help your child to develop their reading skills. Reading books can be brought into school daily, and we will try our best to find five minutes for individual readers. Reading books will be changed around once per week, if we feel your child needs a new book. There may be occasions where reading books will be sent home for more practice, this will be communicated in your child's reading record.

-Allow children time to write in the house, this could be helping write the shopping list, write a card, write a story together.  The most practice children have writing the more confidence they will get.

-Ensure children complete their home learning tasks, this gives you a chance to engage in some learning activities at home with your child, and builds on learning, which has been completed in class
