Year 3 - Mrs Reeves

Summer 2

I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable half term, and you are all ready for a fun and exciting last term in Year 3!

This term our topic is 'Through the Ages'. In celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee 3R will be learning all about the 1980's. We will be having lots of fun researching about this decade and learning about fashion, popular culture, music, technology, interventions, news/events and films in the 80's. Myself and Miss Lewis are very excited to learn about this decade with you - a decade in which we were both born :)

As part of our Jubilee celebrations on Friday 10th July we were been learning and performing the song 'Don't Stop Believin' by Journey. Please find the lyrics below to help your child learn the song ready for their best performance ever.

Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train going anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train going anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waitin'
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searchin' in the night
Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin', somewhere in the night

Workin' hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time

Some'll win, some will lose
Some are born to sing the blues
Whoa, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waitin'
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searchin' in the night
Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin', somewhere in the night

Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on
Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlights, people

Spring term January 2022

Shwmae and welcome back! I hope you had an enjoyable and magical Christmas break. We are very much looking forward to an exciting and busy term in 3R. We have lots of fun and exciting things planned and we can’t wait to get started and continue on our learning journey. Are you ready? Let’s go!

Our Topic – A Ticket Around the World!

This term our topic is ‘A Ticket Around the World’ which links to the school theme of ‘On our Travels’. Pupils will explore this topic and what it means to them through fun and exciting child led learning.

In literacy the first genre we will be focusing on is persuasive letter writing. We will learn a model text called ‘Playstations should be allowed in school’ where we will be identifying specific skills and language from the text using Pie Corbett actions. The children will then write their own letter using the skills and knowledge they have learnt. The children will also have the opportunity to apply the skills they learn during our Literacy lessons, to produce a letter persuading to visit a specific country based on our topic ‘On our Travels’.

Instruction writing will be the second genre that we will be learning about in our literacy lessons.

In maths, we will be learning about:

  • Addition and Subtraction
  • Coordinates
  • Position and Direction
  • Decimals
  • Time
  • Temperature

We would appreciate you supporting our school learning by practicing our weekly maths and literacy topics at home. Please ask your child and keep an eye out on class dojo to see what the weekly maths topics are.

The children have been given new log in bookmarks to keep at home for the following apps/games:

  • HWB
  • TT Rockstars
  • My Maths
  • Giglets
  • Rapid Reading

Please help your child to learn their logins so they can independently log in during the school day.  :)

Weekly Timetable

Everyday

  • Home learning and reading folders to be returned to school

Monday

  • Homework to be given out (every 3 weeks)

Tuesday

  • Physical literacy session. Every Fortnight, we will continue to have our P.E sessions at Dylan Thomas Community School - P.E kit can be worn to school

Friday

  • Spelling test
  • Homework to be completed and returned to school every 3 weeks  return date on top of homework)

Please make every effort to read at home with your child. Just a page or two a day will be really beneficial and help your child to develop their reading skills. Please bring your reading book and reading record to school every day. :)

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”— Dr. Seuss, “I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!”
