Sunshine Room - Mrs Walton

At Gors Community School, we are very lucky to have the Sunshine Room provision. The purpose of our facility is to support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as well as social and emotional difficulties. It allows learners to access the support they need while still benefiting from a mainstream environment. The facility is run by Mrs Walton who is very experienced in additional learning needs.

The Sunshine Room is a nurturing environment with a range of specialist resources and activities tailored to support children who attend the provision. During sessions, children complete class-based activities as well as working on their individual targets. The Sunshine Room also has its very own Sensory Room which is complete with bubble lights, soft furnishings and other sensory equipment! The children also can participate in Sensory Circuit sessions too which supports them in staying relaxed and focused in their class.

Additionally, Mrs Walton provides in class support, observations, strategies and interventions to promote inclusion and effectively support children and staff within a mainstream setting.

Since September 2022, children have also been introduced to Attention Autism which is an intervention model designed by Gina Davies, Specialist Speech and Language Therapist. It aims to develop natural and spontaneous communication using visually highly motivating activities. These sessions are a lot of fun and the children really enjoy these sessions because they can learn in a more creative way, enabling them to access an inclusive curriculum!
