As a school we have worked very closley with our local cluster of schools, to develop a consistent and progressive Curriculum, which is appropriate to the needs and interests of OUR learners.

Cluster Collaboration

  1. Lucy Rowden (Deputy Head Teacher) attended the 4 day training module provided by the LA - 'Lucy Creehan, Curriculum design,' in May 2022.
  2. As a result of attending this training, a cluster working party was developed, consisting of senior leaders from each of the primary schools in the Dylan Thomas Cluster. This group was highly effective and supportive. The group met regularly and started to create a list of consistent 'domains,' for all AOL. This was supported by several advisors from the LA. Lucy Creehan, also supported and assisted this group. The cluster working party regularly fed back to the group of head teachers on the progress which was being made.
  3. The cluster working party also ensured that the staff at each school were prepared and updated regularly on the progress which was being made. Members of staff from Dylan Thomas were an integral part of the process ensuring they brought subject knowledge and PS4 and PS5 reflections.
  4. In July 2022, it was decided that in order to share this approach with the cluster staff, an INSET session would be held – where all teaching staff, from each school could attend and start to develop their own AOL, under the 'Domain' headings, already established.
  5. The INSET day was planned for 21st October 2022. Cluster party met and arranged the agenda. Training was delivered to staff and they were prepared with resources and pedological knowledge to start to plan a progressive curriculum. They used the Domains as the base and then planned the 'threads' from this. The day proved very successful and was well received by most.
  6. Networks were established and staff were able to work within AOL groups to begin the process – this will continue over the next year.

Our Cluster Training Day 21.10.22 - where we all met to start to plan OUR Curriculum!

We met with the children at school and explained why things are changing!

Our learners have a great input into their learning and we have broken the 'Four Purposes', down into strands to help us understand what they really mean!

We held a virtual assembly where we explained what was changing, when was it changing and why were we developing a new Curriculum. Our learners had wonderful ideas!

Our teachers are all leaders of an Area of Learning;

Mrs Rowden - Literacy, Language and Communication

Mr Jones - Numeracy

Mrs Reeves - Science and Technology

Mrs Jefferies - Science and Technology

Miss Evans - Health and Well Being

Mr Webster - Humanities

Miss Symons - Expressive Arts

Miss Jones - Language, Literacy and Communication (Welsh element)

Miss Ford - Religion, Values and Ethics

Miss Morris - Relationships, Sexuality Education

They are committed to developing a progressive, inclusive and exciting curriculum, which reflects the needs and interests of the children in our school.
