School Council

The School Council here at Gors Community School are a group of pupils from Year 2 to Year 6 who have been elected by their peers to represent them and their views. The School Council meet every Tuesday with Mrs Griffiths and help to make decisions regarding how the school is run and also take on projects such as helping to organise charity events such as Children in Need and Comic Relief. They help with monitoring the school Twitter page, have been involved in the promotion and implementation of our Playground Buddy scheme and more recently, the promotion of ‘Pantri Pawb’, our school community ‘Swapshop’.

Rights Respecting Ambassadors

The Rights Respecting Council is a self-elected group of children in the school who are passionate about children’s rights. The children's rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted. They meet weekly together on a Thursday with Mrs Reeves and discuss how to ensure other children in the school learn about the rights of a child. The Rights Respecting team deliver a weekly whole school assembly where they present a Rights Respecting certificate to one member of each class. These children have been nominated by their peers and teacher for their respectful behaviour which is linked to the value and right of the month. During the assembly the Rights Respecting cup is also presented to a child in the school who has been nominated by their peers for their respectful behaviour in all aspects of school life.

Prefects

Our lovely Year 6 prefects act as excellent role-models to the whole school. They happily take on extra responsibilities to ensure the smooth running of day-to-day life within the classes, corridors and the school yard. Together they have designed a ‘Prefect Book’ which details their timetabled responsibilities, which can be anything from Door Duty, sitting with the younger children in assembly, to checking the Guinea Pigs! They really do show excellence in all they do!

Criw Cymraeg

Criw Cymraeg are our Welsh Pupil Voice group. Their role is to promote Welsh within their classroom and around the School. These children have been elected by their class to represent and lead the Welsh Language. Criw Cymraeg meet every Monday to discuss a weekly Welsh pattern. They lead a Welsh assembly every Tuesday to deliver the 'Patrwm Yr Wythnos' and award 'Siaradwr Cymraeg' Welsh speaking certificates. Criw Cymareg  organise whole School Welsh celebration including Shwmae day, St David's day and Welsh music day. They have also had the opportunity to visit other Schools during Criw Cymraeg events.

Healthy Heroes

Healthy Heroes are our newest pupil voice group, made up of children from Years 2-6. The aim of the Healthy Heroes is to promote health and well-being at Gors Community School. We will be planning and delivering workshops to the younger classes, as well as preparing information leaflets and posters to share with parents. In our meetings we discuss a range of health and well-being topics, including physical health, nutrition and looking after ourselves to name a few. Please keep a look out for our leaflets and posters on ClassDojo during the Summer term!

Digital Wizards

The Digital Wizards in Gors Community School have a passion for technology and are enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge.

They are committed to helping each other and the pupils and staff in school.

This year we have been working hard to try to sort out the different technologies in school and investigate what new ones we would like.

One of our focuses this year has been how to stay safe online, what apps and games are appropriate for us to be using and what we should do if something makes us uncomfortable.

We aim to hold an assembly at least once a half term to keep the school and staff informed about what we are doing.
