Health and Well-being newsletters

At Gors Community School, we recognise that health and wellbeing is fundamental to teaching and learning, across all areas of our curriculum and in particular we recognise the impact of your emotional health and well-being on your learning.

It is our job to look after you, making sure that you are safe and comfortable at school and able to be the very best that you can be.

We help you through our use of the Thrive programme, access to the Haven and the Retreat, music therapy and much more!

Thrive Programme What is it?

The Haven

The Haven at Gors is a safe space, a room where learners can come to talk, take part in quiet activities such as lego, colouring, fidgets, mindfulness activities, or to have a good look at our resident fish! The Haven is used for group work through the school day, and is home to Miss G Evans and Miss Golding. At break times and lunch times there is a timetable of activities that pupils who access the Haven can take part in.

The Retreat

At Gors Community School we know that unstructured times, such as lunch times can be difficult for learners to navigate. The Retreat is open for you to self-refer, meaning you can ask to come indoors and play games, read or do some colouring. The Retreat is a quiet space, away from the hustle and bustle of the school yard.

Music Therapy

Music therapy is run by our wonderful Mrs Ferguson! We are so lucky to have Mrs Ferguson at our school, she works with every class for their weekly music sessions, she runs a weekly recorder club at lunch time and offers music therapy. Music therapy is offered as a targeted provision, to support learner well-being.

Playground Buddies

Do you think you have what it takes to be a playground buddy? Mrs Griffiths is always on the lookout for new playground buddies that she can train up to be able to help others on the yard. You may be needed to help the younger children learn new games, or keep somebody company who maybe is feeling lonely. If you need the help of a playground buddy keep an eye out for the pupils in green vests, they will be more than willing to help!

Here are our current team of playground buddies receiving their training with Mrs Griffiths.
