TOPIC -We're going on a treasure hunt!

Pirate Pete has crashed his boat and lost his treasure! The children need to help him and get him back to sea by:

M1: First the children will learn all about pirates themselves, looking at what they wear, travel in and the lingo they use before creating a video report all about pirates.

M2: The children will then have to help Pirate Pete by making him a boat.  We will explore, sinking/floating, materials, race our boats, and finish off with create a large one for Pirate Pete.

M3: The children will then have to help Pirate Pete find his lost treasure.  We will be programming bee bots, learning about maps and following instructions to find the buried treasure.

At the end of the term we will then throw a Pirate party for Pirate Pete to show him everything we have done to help him!

Things to remember:

-Please bring labelled fruit to school every day, separate from their lunch.

-Please label all belongings with your child’s name.

-P.E is on a Tuesday, the children can come in dressed appropriately.

How to help your child:

Numeracy: Help your child recognise numbers by going on number hunts around the house or identifying numbers when out and about. We also ask that you get children to practice forming their numbers as well as recognise them.  See below our number formation rhymes to help at home.

Reading :We ask that you find a quiet ten minutes every day to look at a book with your child. The more you read and talk about stories, the more confident your child will feel about handling books. If you child has not been given a reading book yet, please keep practicing their sounds using our Jolly Phonics songs.  When your child in confident with them, we can then send one home with them.

Writing: Please encourage your child to write their names independently.  This can be made fun by using a range of different materials e.g. painting, chalk, felt tips.  Your child so should also be trying to form some sounds correctly, getting them to sit on the line. See below our Jolly Phonics formation rhymes to help them at home.
