Pupil Voice Groups at Gors

Our Pupil Voice groups at Gors include Eco Bugs (led by Mrs Griffiths), Criw Cymraeg (led by Miss Jones), Opal (led by Mr Webster), Healthy Heroes (led by Miss Morris), Rights Respecting Ambassadors (led by Mrs Jefferies), School Council (led by Mrs Reeves), and Diversity Ambassadors (led by Miss Ford).

Half-termly meetings are held for each group, involving pupils from Reception to Year 6. Through participation in Pupil Voice activities, children develop key skills such as communication, leadership, and collaboration. These groups also promote an inclusive school culture where every child feels valued and respected, helping to positively impact overall school morale and behaviour.

Eco Bugs

My name is Mrs Griffiths, and I am the teacher responsible for the Eco Bugs. We meet together each half term, and our group includes pupils from Reception through to Year 6. We are all very passionate about caring for our world, including the people, plants and animals that live in it.

Going forward, we will be focusing on promoting the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling materials—something we feel very strongly about. Through our work as Eco Bugs, we aim to encourage positive environmental choices across our school community.

School Council

The School Council at Gors Community School are a group of pupils from the Cockles class all the way up to the Glyndwr class who have chosen to represent the pupils of Gors School and their views. The school council meet with Mrs Reeves and other teachers and TAs to discuss ways to make the school a better place, discuss any school issues and to express the thoughts and opinions of other learners. The School council help to organise charity events such as Children in Need, Christmas Jumper Day and Red Nose Day.

Important Dates:

Red Nose Day - Friday 20th March 2026 - more information to follow

Rights Respecting Ambassadors

What is a Rights Respecting School?

A Rights Respecting School puts the CRC (Convention on the Rights of the Child) at the heart of a school’s culture and ethos to improve well-being and develop every child’s talents and abilities to their fullest potential.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Rights Respecting Pupil Voice Group:

  • Attend half termly meetings where we discuss actions to be taken, then take any important information back to our classes.

  • With the help of Buttercup our Rights Respecting butterfly mascot, we try to encourage pupils to use the language of rights.

  • Remind children of their rights in the classroom and on the yard, using our class and playground charters.

  • During the year through activities, events and assemblies, our ambassadors will promote that all children:              Have rights and that they should be informed of those rights.                                                        Will be helped to exercise and enforce their rights.

Prefects

Our lovely Year 6 prefects act as excellent role-models to the whole school. They happily take on extra responsibilities to ensure the smooth running of day-to-day life within the classes, corridors and the school yard. Together they have designed a ‘Prefect Book’ which details their timetabled responsibilities, which can be anything from Door Duty, sitting with the younger children in assembly, to checking the Guinea Pigs! They really do show excellence in all they do!

Criw Cymraeg

We are proud to have achieved the Siarter Iaith Bronxze award!!

Criw Cymraeg are our Welsh Pupil Voice group. Their role is to promote Welsh within their classroom and around the School. This year our Pupil voice group has expanded and we have more pupils to help encourage Welsh speaking around the School. We meet once every half term to discuss our action plan.

Criw lead a Welsh assembly every Friday to deliver the 'Patrwm Yr Wythnos' and award 'Siaradwr Cymraeg' Welsh speaking certificates. Criw Cymareg  organise whole School Welsh celebration including Shwmae day, St David's day and Welsh music day. They have also had the opportunity to visit other Schools during Criw Cymraeg events.

About Us

Healthy Heroes is a pupil voice group that empowers children to champion health and wellbeing across our school. Working together, the group promotes healthy lifestyles, positive mental wellbeing, and active choices through ideas and everyday actions. Healthy Heroes ensures pupils’ voices are heard and helps create a happy, healthy school community for everyone.

January Update

It was wonderful to meet our new Healthy Heroes Pupil Voice Group as we gathered for our very first meeting this week.

We had a lively discussion about what it means to be Healthy, and we created a mind map of ideas for healthy food, drinks and exercise.

Our Next Steps to consider in our second meeting were related to improvements we would like to see in the school, and are as follows:

  • More time outdoors and more fresh air – for our physical and mental wellbeing
  • Re-introduce the daily mile across the school
  • Movement breaks in class
  • More time for play
  • More opportunities for healthy eating.

Miss Morris set a task for members to design a healthy heroes logo.

We look forward to meeting again next half term!

Diversity Ambassadors is a pupil voice group that celebrates difference and promotes inclusion across our school. The group works together to make sure everyone feels respected, valued, and represented, regardless of their background, identity, or experiences. Diversity Ambassadors aim is to share pupil perspectives, raise awareness of important issues, support school events and initiatives, and help create a welcoming environment where all voices are heard!

Our actions:
-Create a questionnaire for children to see if they feel welcome and represented and how can we improve.
-Support the school in achieving the Schools of Sanctuary award.

-Plan for refugee week in the Summer Term.
