Welcome to the Dragons class page!

Here you will find key information, newsletters and pictures of all of the fun that happens in the Dragons classroom.

Key times for the day

8.40am - doors open for learners to arrive

8.50am - doors closed for registration

11.55am - lunch

3.20pm - end of school day

Learning
Throughout the morning we will be working on maths and literacy activities, lots of this will be taught through play and practical activities. There will be a mixture of indoor and outdoor learning for the children to enjoy. In the afternoon we will complete our topic related activities, as well as Welsh, P.E, RSE and RVE. The children will also access activities independently in the classroom throughout the day.

Independence

In order to promote independence children will be able to choose when they stop in the morning session to have their snack. They will be able to access the water station independently as and when they need to throughout the day. They can bring their own water bottle to school, or use a school bottle if they'd prefer. Children will also be able to use the toilets independently. When they need to they can pop their jumper/cardigan/jacket in the jumper box - it is vitally important that all belongings are labelled with their name.

Supporting at home
In school we use Monster Phonics to teach reading, there is an app that you are able to download that will support your child in learning their letter sounds and how to read at home. It will also help if you do lots of practical counting at home, counting objects, steps, etc. You can also help your child's number recognition by looking for numbers in the environment, e.g buses, door numbers, etc.

Reading books

Reading books will be set up in the first few weeks of the school year, and will be issued every Thursday. The children will choose a book to come home with, that they can share at home, and when we feel they are ready for independent reading we will issue a decodable book for them to practise blending at home. Please make every effort to read with your child at home, learning to read is the most essential skill for your child in their early education.

If there is anything at all that I can help you with, please do not hesitate to message me on ClassDojo and I will do my best!

Thank you,

Miss Evans and Team Dragons
