Daffodils - Mrs Reeves

Croeso i Ddosbarth Daffodils

Welcome to Daffodils class

Teacher: Mrs Reeves

Teaching Assistant: Miss Golding

It has been lovely to welcome the children back for the start of their journey in the ‘Daffodils’ class! We have had a fantastic start to the new school year and have already had lots of fun playing and learning with our friends in the indoor and outdoor environment.

We are starting the Autumn term with our new topic ‘Everyone together’ – where we will learn about ourselves and our friends – where we live in our local community and move onto the wider world. We will be looking at diversity and different cultures within our own community and across the world. We have lots of lovely activities planned for the children to take part in over the coming weeks. They will also have opportunities to lead their own learning and contribute their ideas, and really think about what it is that they would like to learn.

Indoor environment – we have a bright and stimulating classroom where the children are able to play and learn independently and collaboratively in our Welsh, writing, numeracy, creative, funky fingers, reading, construction, sand, water and role play area.

Outdoor environment – we are fortunate enough to have access to two large garden areas which provides rich, sensory first hand experiences; space and freedom for our learners to explore, experiment and investigate in their natural environment. These experiences enhance their physical, social, problem solving, risk taking and communication skills.

General Information

Attendance – ‘Every day, on time! It is wonderful to see our ‘Daffodils’ every day and on time. Classroom doors open at 8.40am for the children to  arrive at school, and will close at 8.50am.If you arrive after this time then you will need to sign your child into school at the main office. School finishes at 3.20pm and children are to be collected from the same entrance as drop off.

Class Dojo – Class Dojo is our main form of communication. Please keep an eye this, as important on messages and reminders will be sent out. We also send some wonderful photographs to showcase our learning and show our families all of the fun we have been having.  Please feel free to send me a Dojo message, if you have any questions. We are here to help.

Reading - Please, please can you make sure your child brings their reading book to school every day as we listen to the children read as much as we can throughout the week. It is important that you try to listen to your child read every night. Please can you comment and write in your child’s reading record when you have listened to them read.

Fruit/Snack – Every day we sit together to enjoy a healthy snack. The children are welcome to bring their own healthy snack and water or alternatively pay 30p a day for fruit from school.

School Uniform – School uniform is not compulsory. However the children do look very smart when wearing it and it does save the ‘what to wear today question’. You are able to purchase school uniform form our school office or we allow plain blue jumpers and white polo shirts which are available in most supermarkets.

Label belongings – please label EVERYTHING with your child’s name- coat, jumper, cardigans, polo shirts, bags, drink bottles and snack pots – it really does help and we can make sure they arrive home safely.

Supporting your child's learning at home

The following games and links can be used to support your child’s learning at home:

Jolly Phonics- We use the Jolly Phonics scheme to teach phonics at school, and the Jolly Phonics jingles can be accessed at home:

Numeracy – To support your child in developing their numeracy skills counting and questioning every day in the natural environement can be a fun and engaging way. E.g. recognising and naming numbers on house doors, buses and price tags in the supermarket and counting the number of steps up and down the stairs etc.

Reading – Reading a bedtime story to your child every night will help to develop their literacy skills as well as talking to them and questioning them about the story such as: what do you think the book will be about? What do you think will happen next? What was your favourite part/character and why?
