Cockles - Mrs Griffiths

Welcome to Cockles!

Here you’ll find some key information about your child’s school day.

Our class teacher is Mrs Giffiths, and Mrs Griffiths is supported by the fantastic  Miss Phillips. We also have our lovely student, Miss Morelli.

School Day:

  • Doors open at 8:40am and close at 8:50am for registration.
  • Lunchtime is 11:55am – 12:55pm.
  • School finishes at 3:20pm

During the day, children will enjoy lots of hands-on learning and play, both indoors and outdoors.

  • Mornings are predominantly for Literacy (reading, writing, speaking) and Maths.
  • Afternoons are for topic work and creative activities. Children will join in with small group activities with an adult, as well as have time to explore and learn independently in the classroom.

Literacy 📖

We follow the fun Monster Phonics scheme to build strong reading and writing skills. Children enjoy videos, jingles and actions that help them recognise sounds and say them clearly. There is an app you can download to support this at home.

Maths 🔢

For maths, we use the White Rose Maths scheme alongside lots of practical activities. This term we’ll focus on number recognition, number formation, and simple number facts and relationships.

Fruit 🍎

Fruit is available to buy at school for 30p a day, or you can send some in from home (please label it with your child’s name).
⚠️ If you send grapes, please cut them in half lengthways for safety.

Clothing 🧥

  • Please label everything you send in—bags, coats, jumpers, etc.—so nothing gets lost.
  • As the weather changes, make sure your child comes dressed for the season. In autumn, that means a warm coat, hat, and scarf for outdoor play.

ClassDojo 📲

Please check ClassDojo regularly for messages and reminders. You’re also welcome to send me a message there anytime if you have questions—I’m always happy to help!

Reading 📚

Reading books will be sent home in the first few weeks. These will go out every Friday.

  • At first, your child will bring home a book to share and enjoy with you.
  • When they’re ready, they’ll also bring home a decodable book to practise blending sounds.

Please try to read together at home as often as possible—reading is such an important skill and makes a big difference to their learning.

This term, we’ll also spend time learning classroom routines and rules to help everyone settle in and feel confident.
