Community Links

We are Gors Community School - Community by name and Community by nature!!!

We are an integral part of our local community and participate in all aspects of our local area. We have developed strong links with many community amenities and local businesses.

At Gors we want to develop a real sense of belonging and pride in our local community - we are a diverse and vibrant community, with numerous skills and attributes. We develop these links to help allow our young learners, to really, 'Imagine the World!'

Links to local Community projects;

St Peters Church

We have strong links with our local church, St Peters, Cockett. Rev J Wright, is an integral part of our School Governing Body. He supports us with numerous assemblies throughout the year. The church community have taken part in sponsored events at the school and a successful 'School Uniform Swap Shop,' was held. Where parents were able to visit school, donate school uniform and collect pre loved uniform, which the church community had kindly washed and prepared.

What a great idea!

Glasfryn House

We have developed strong links with our local care home, Glasfryn House. Our classes visit the care home regularly, on a rota basis to spend time with the wonderful residents. We have learnt so much from each other. We enjoy playing games, singing songs together, completing craft activities and much much more!

CAMHS

We have a great relationship with our local CAMHS school link - Jez!

Jez visits school very often and helps and supports both parents and children. We hold termly parent workshops on a range of topics, from resilience to behaviour.

PCSO

We have regular visits from our local PCSO officers, Dave and Julie - they are wonderful and are always on hand to offer support and advice to our families.

Police School liaison Officer

PC Kyle, our School liaison Officer visits school very often, delivering important lessons to all ages. Some of the topics include 'Stranger Danger,' 'Cyber Bullying' and 'Sticks and Stones.' We all really enjoy his sessions.

Matthew's House

As part of our Harvest celebrations, we are supporting a very important charity, 'Matthew's House.' We will donate a great amount of food to this charity, for them to share with others in need.

Health Visitors

We work closely with our Health Visitors, who also work within the community - they are a vital part of our school team.

Local Businesses

Our FFROGS (Friends of Gors School) have been fortunate to receive many kind donations from local businesses for fundraising events - these have included raffle prizes, cups, plates, food, etc. We are very grateful them all.

Townhill Library

We have developed strong links with Townhill Library. This is a wonderful relationship, which allows the children to visit the library often, borrow books and to take part in fun events, such as 'The Summer Reading Challenge.' Members of the library also visit school, share stories with the children and take a termly 'Rhyme Time,' session with our youngest learners.

Dylan Thomas Comprehensive School

We are proud of the strong links we have with our local comprehension school - Dylan Thomas. Our children visit regularly for PE lessons and to access the wonderful facilities. We also have the opportunities to share lessons together.

We are very lucky to be a part of such a kind and wonderful community, we will continue to work together to ensure every child feels safe, loved and a part of the world around them - lets all - Imagine the World,' together.
