New Curriculum

The way teachers teach and children learn is changing...

The people who are in charge of the schools in Wales decided, back in 2014 (so nine years ago), that there should be some changes as to how teachers teach and children learn.

A man called Professor Graham Donaldson (who is from Scotland) was put in charge of speaking to lots of teachers and lots of children to ask them what they thought about their school. In total he, and his team, spoke to 700 people and over 300 of these were children!

He found that teachers wanted more power to make decisions about what they taught and how they taught it. Teachers wanted teaching to be even more fun than it is already!

He also found that children thought that the curriculum (that’s a fancy word for what children learn and how) was a bit out of date – especially when it came to using technology. Some children also said that they wanted what they were learning in school to prepare them for real life and to help them become healthier – both physically and mentally.
